BoxRec currently ranks Tyson at number 20 among the greatest boxers that had their last fight at heavyweight. In The Ring magazine’s list of the 80 Best Fighters of the Last 80 Years, released in 2002, Tyson was ranked at number 72. He is ranked number 16 on The Ring magazine’s 2003 list of 100 greatest punchers of all time. Tyson has defeated 11 boxers for the world heavyweight title, the seventh-most in history.

Under the guidance of Cus, Mike contested the 1981 and 1982 Junior Olympic Games, winning gold medals both times. Mike made his professional debut in 1985 at the age of 18. In the same year, he had to endure the death of Cus, who died of pneumonia at the age of 77. In 1986, Mike had his first shot at a title against Trevor Berbick for the World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight championship. He won the match in the second round, becoming the youngest heavyweight champion in history. The win against Berbick in a match that was billed as Judgment Day was Mike’s stepping stone to stardom.

Who is Mike Tyson? This is the question posed by the upcoming Mike, which will tell the story of the boxing legend. Starring Moonlight actor Trevante Rhodes as Mike Tyson, Mike will explore the life and times of Tyson from his early childhood to becoming Iron Mike, to his prison time and his return to the ring, with Rhodes undergoing several transformations along the way. You can watch the trailer below, which comes courtesy of Hulu.

The design of Tyson’s tattoo is inspired by Maori warriors’ facial markings, which are traditional tattoos called ‘moko.’ These tattoos are highly revered in Maori culture, often used to signify status, identity, and ancestry. While Tyson’s tattoo is not an authentic moko, the design borrows elements that symbolize warrior status and strength, echoing Tyson’s own identity as a fighter both in and out of the ring.

Not only is boxing one of the world’s oldest sports, it is also one of the most watched sports around the world. Although boxing has been a part of human history for millennia, professional boxing or prizefighting only arose in the 19th century.

Paul scored a first-round KO of journeyman August in December and followed up with a first-round TKO of another such opponent in Bourland on Saturday. But those bouts didn’t seem to elicit much attention.

It’s also a big coup for Netflix, as live streaming a pay-per-view caliber event is sure to reshape how the streaming industry thinks about live sports on major platforms, though Amazon’s big moves acquiring sports streaming rights alongside the other big platforms shows they’re already on the ball. I think we’re really in for a historic event this summer and something that might really push the streaming world even further into sports.

While attending the Miss Black America contest, Tyson met 18-year-old Desiree Washington. On July 19, 1991 Tyson took her back to his hotel room and allegedly raped the young pageant contestant. He was tried and convicted of rape, and in March of 1992, Tyson was sentenced to six years in prison. He spent three years of his six-year sentence in jail. Word leaked out that Tyson was a different man after spending time behind bars. He was said to be reading communist literature, Malcom X, and had even converted to Islam.

Zhang, 40, dominated Joyce in April, damaging the 38-year-old’s eye to the point of closure and sealing a sixth-round stoppage. And when the pair returned to London on Saturday, it took Zhang just three rounds to repeat the trick at Wembley Arena.

According to History.com, Tyson was convicted of raping Desiree Washington, an 18-year-old contestant in the Miss Black Rhode Island pageant, in an Indianapolis hotel in 1992. This conviction came after Washington accused Tyson of assaulting her in July 1991, leading to a highly publicized trial.

Commenting on Ali lighting the Olympic flame in 1996, Frazier stated that it would have been good if Ali had fallen into the cauldron after lighting the flame, and that he would have pushed Ali in himself if he had the chance to do so. In a press conference held on July 30, 1996, Frazier accused Ali of being a “draft dodger” and a racist, and claimed he would have been a better choice to light the Olympic flame. Also in 1996, Frazier claimed Ali was suffering from “Joe Frazier-itis” and “left-hook-itis.”

Mike is set to address Tyson’s impressive career, including winning 50 out of 58 fights, 44 by knockout as well as his marriage to Robin Givens and his time in prison for the rape of 18-year-old Desiree Washington.

While most of the old boxers on this list had continuous careers, Foreman took a 10-year break after losing to Jimmy Young in 1977. Foreman spent the next 10 years working as a Christian minister before making a comeback in 1987. His boxing career lasted another 10 years and box Foreman was able to regain his heavyweight championship title in 1994, at the age of 45, by knocking out 26-year old Michael Moorer. Foreman finally retired in 1997 when he was 48.
